Kulina
Food delivery service.

Overview

client

Kulina is a food delivery service operating in Jakarta, Indonesia. The current offering is a lunch meal subscription.

Google selected Kulina into its 2017 Launchpad Accelerator program. Read about the details.

Platform: available on responsive web

project

The project scope was to design a native iOS app supporting the responsive web experience.

Menu

opportunity

The current website is slow and needs to repeatedly load large images from a web server. On a mobile app, Kulina can store data locally which results in a better experience overall for users.

Hypothesis: If users can switch between past and upcoming menu items within the same view, it will increase app performance.

Success Metric: The app's average load time should be faster than the website.

Below, I've called attention to the key patterns and components used in the final menu screens.

Tabs: Groups lunch meal orders into two categories – upcoming and past.

Action Sheet: View and update current delivery address.

Created to demonstrate how the tab and action sheet interactions would feel.

Referral

opportunity

The current website's referral flow is built around sharing a code across social services – think Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp. On a mobile app, users can select friends from their address book and invite them to Kulina via SMS.

Hypothesis: Users would be more likely to invite their friends if they had the flexibility to copy/share the referral code and search for friends in the same view.

Success Metric: The overall number of accepted referrals should increase.

Search Bar: Inputting letters or numbers brings up relevant contacts.

Promo Code: Can be applied from the account screen.

Notifications

opportunity

A low email open rate became a concern since this channel was vital to engaging and retaining users. Through a mobile app, Kulina can send both SMS and push notifications. Users also benefit from the customization of push notifications — badge, banner, lock screen.

Hypothesis: Users would be more likely to leave notifications turned on if they had control over the types of notifications they received.

Success Metric: The number of users with notifications turned on should increase over time.

Knob: Users can toggle delivery and push notifications on and off.
